Need PUP rewind, Who?
« on: January 20, 2012, 07:29:33 pm »
The pup on my Gibson BR-6 lap steel just died. Coil reads 6M.     :w2:    I can see corrosion around the 2 center slug mags, must have shorted the turns.

The pup looks a lot like a P-90. I was looking around the web and someone said it's really a pup from one of their console steels, lap steel with legs.

Anyway I see Jason Lollar is not doing rewinds anymore for the time being, cause business is good. Good for him. I'm going to call Lindy Fralin next week.

Any other guys I should consider?

I've always used Lindy Fralin, and my customers have always been happy with the results.  Seymour Duncan also does it, and also does a fine job.  You'll need to call them to get rates and all that, but most of the time (unless you are talking about something vintage - by which I mean real vintage - 60's or older, and definitely NOT a `70's Strat!) it is cheaper if you can find a replacement.  And while Jason might not do a rewind for you, I'd be willing to bet he would do a new pickup for you.

Lindy's site say's $50 for a rewind, but I'll call him to make sure. I've read a lot of good reviews about Lolar in TQR mag. New pup's (P-90) on his site start at $130.

So I think I'll start with Fralin and see what he says.

Thanks Gabriel.
