The Rebeltone

Hi guys,

I've been working on this 5E3 amp for the past couple of weeks.  I built this one for http://leeroystagger.com/

It's simply a 5E3 in a tweed Pro style cabinet.  Mojo built the awesome lacquered cabinet.  I sure love their cabs. Highly recommended.

The cool thang about this project was to hear how a cabinet can affect the tone.  My customer wanted the 5e3 tone with just a little more oomph.  I think we succeeded in doing just that.  This cab has a baffle cut for a 15" and then uses a baffle converter to step it down to 12".  Makes it nice and a little more versatile.

I've installed a mullard reissue 12ax7 in v1 position, jj 12ax7 in v2 position and JJ 6V6's for power and a 5Y3S rectifier.

Speaker is a Weber Alnico 12a125a, 30W, light doping.

Another fun project!

Oh, it sure makes a difference!!

I used to own a '55 Tremolux. The circuit is essentially a 5E3, with a tremolo circuit and a paraphase inverter to facilitate trem injection.

It's not fair to compare a '55 with a modern copy, but the Tremoloux was bigger, swampier and cooler than my modern 5E3 copy. My 5E3 uses a fairly authentic, smaller narrow panel cabinet. It captures about 90% of the '55's mojo.
