RIP Ronnie.

I grew up on the far NW side of Chicago.  When I was old enough to start to go see bands live, @ 15/16 it was only a buss ride to the Aragon Ballroom and tickets were only $6.50 to $8.50 and that was for 3 bands! I saw so many bands there. Montross was one of them.

Perhaps his best stuff was with Edgar Winter?

Here's one of my favorites by Ronnie, I saw him play this at the Aragon on tour to promote his new album and his solo guitar just flew out into that ballroom that night, like you would not belive, 100x better than the recording!

Ronnie was at a local radio station for an interview the day of a Montrose concert back in the Hagar days.  They announced that he was taking calls so I called up.

Me, "I'm a big fan, I think your playing is fantastic!  Do you play just Les Pauls?"
Ronnie, "yup"
Me, "You are also playing 100watt Marshalls?"
Ronnie, "yup"
Me, "What pedals are you running through?"
Ronnie,.......long pause......"what?....yup, I gotta go.." click

It was hilarious!  I'm sure he cringed when the jock said to call in!  I'm also sure he was hoping for someone of the opposite sex!  What a tasty player he was.  Lots of great tunes over the years.

I remember back in high school (maybe '77?) I had an 8-track player and only a couple of casettes - one of them was this same Montrose album w/ the Rock Candy and Bad Motor Scooter songs which I played over and over. Loved it! Ofcourse, one of my other casettes was taken apart, cut out the tape parts, and used as a contraband "cigarette" carrying case. LOL

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
