TUBES and dangerous X RAYS
« on: March 15, 2012, 04:31:20 pm »
The way X rays are emitted for radiography is exactly the same as an electronic tube. I just finished a book on quantic mecanic ( not sure if it is the right way to write that in English ) and there is a chapter on x rays, invisible rays of very high energy ( high frequency, very small wave length ) on the blue side of the sun light spectrum. They say that X rays are produced by electrons  emitted by a heater and accelerated by a high voltage source ( screen, plate ) that hit a metal sheet, all that in a vacuum tube. So there must be a slight X ray emission in a tube inside ab anplifier, , though voltages in a X ray tube is closer to 30kV than 450V .

The 30kV is the key part of that, along with the statement, "invisible rays of very high energy."

Tube guitar amps are very low energy, by comparison.

There were also special tubes for emitting x-rays. You're not getting irradiated by your amp...

There is a minimum voltage needed to knock-loose an X-ray from a metal surface.

Under 1,000 Volts you have NO X-rays.

10,000 volt TV CRTs do make X-rays. The high voltage is regulated to control the amount, the face glass is loaded with Lead to absorb that.

Remember the weird blue glow from B/W tv's?

At night, from outside, you could see who had the tv on!

Funny tho, no weird blue glow watching a B/W movie on a color tv.
