Leslie 16/Fender Vibraverb
« on: March 25, 2012, 09:53:09 pm »
Anyone have experience with a Leslie 16/Fender Vibratone? I got a Leslie foam drum and motor but need to make the pedal to make it work. I found these
http://mosweb.federalproductions.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/16-18_Adapter.gif http://www.nmia.com/~vrbass/vibratone/Vibratone.pdf

Looks like this was run inline between amp and speaker. I rigged it up straight from main amp to speaker and did'nt like it too much. I think with the Xover and main speaker it might sound better.
The schematic is kinda confusing so I redid it without the motor speed control. Also looks to me to be an error S2 goes to P1 but the numbers don't line up(24531, 21534)????
Anyone know the values and rating for the coil(L1)? It says 1.2 Mh(megahenries?), is it supposed to be mH(microhenries)?

Fender says thiers was a 4 ohm speaker, Is it OK to use with all amps?
Should it only be used with a 4 ohm amp and 4 ohm main speaker?
could it be used with an 8 ohm amp and 8 ohm main speaker with the 4 ohm leslie speaker?
If using with an 8 ohm amp should I replace the lesleie speaker with an 8 ohm?
This was sold as an add on but what would be the Ideal set up?

Also it looks like the relays coil is hooked straight  up to the secondary of the transformer when switch is thrown. Shouldn't relays be DC. Won't AC cause it to flick back and forth 60 times/sec? What type of relay should I use?

Anyone ever built one or has a simple schematic that's eaiser to read.

There are no MegaHenries.

Speaker chokes tend to be milliHenries.

I explored this filter, here, in the last few months.

Thanks that's what I thought. Someone must have put Mh instead of mH.

I can't find a pic of the grill from the back. From the discoloration in the cloth it looks like there's a big square hole to let sound out the bottom and a diaginal cut. Not sure if this is to let sound out or cut out for space for the rotors brace? If you do get a chance to take pics one of the grill from the back would be nice, Thanks.

Also could you measure the size of the sound holes on the top and sides for me? Thanks.

Slow seems almost to slow and fast seems as fast as you'd ever want this effect to be. If you could spare a minute of your time could you count how many rotations your drum makes on slow? I count about 42.
Sounds kinda wierd but maybe cuz I'm going straight into the speaker now I'm not getting the full effect. Might be better effect with the Xover(main + Leslie spearker).

PRR do you remember the name of the thread or what key words to search?

Here's one, but I seem to remember another one too. Was it started by G. Hoffman?

Look at reply #15 for a bunch of good pics.

I deleted my comment tonight cause I thought I may have hijacked your thread...then I read your response!

"I have two of these model 16 Leslie's at the moment.  I picked up my unit several years ago without the crossover/footswitch and last week I received another model 16 in for servicing.  This one has been modified to work with a simple 1/4" input and another 1/4" input for a footswitch to control the motor speed.

I have yet to try it out but when I open it up, I'll snap some pics for us.  If it works well and sounds good, maybe I'll convert my model 16 to this configuration.

Building a footswitch/crossover for my model 16 has been on my to do list for a while now.  It's been one of those projects I'll get to some day."

Look at my website link:    http://www.glacieramps.com/Glacier_Amplification/Pics/Pages/Fender-Leslie_Model_16.html

This may help.

Sure...I'll need a few days before I can get to it.  I'll post back as soon as I can.

Thanks appreciate it.

PRR still can't find that thread and I tried everything I can think of in the search(leslie, inductor, vibratone etc.)
What should the rating be on the 1.2 mH inductor?
