R.I.P. Donald "Duck" Dunn

The great bass player from Booker T. and the MG's, along with almost all of the truly classic Stax/Volt recordings, passed away Saturday night in his hotel room in Tokyo, after playing the second night of a two night gig. 

The world is a lot less funky today.

That guy helped shape the sound of American music. IMO, He was one fine bass player.

The local hipster radio station (which is a GREAT radio station, for all their irony and such) kept playing Green Onions as tribute to him.  And I'm all for playing tribute to him, but the problem is...he didn't play on Green Onions! 

So, for their "My Three Songs" audience request bit today, I got them to play three songs he DID play on.  Hold on, I'm Comming by Sam and Dave, In the Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett, and of course, Can't Turn you Loose, by the immortal Otis Redding.  I don't know why, but for some reason I take great joy in correcting Hipsters, which is odd since most people would probably say I was one, if I were ten years younger!
