Rory Gallagher amp..
« on: June 04, 2012, 04:19:23 pm »
had a real treat today,
friend of mine purchased a marshall 50watt mkII lead marshall amp. in a strange sort of oversize custom 2 x 12 cabinet as well.
It was from an auction of Rorys equipment he used over the years.
came complete with original sticky tape to keep on the plectrums in place!! and the markings for the dial settings he liked.
It was an eerie experience to place the dials to the markers , plug in a strat and it just sounded like the real thing - like so close to the real thing (except obviously the playing)
on further research it has been pictured t many gigs and recording sessions for years.
a truely beautiful amp.
Cheers,
Bakerlite

I'm a hugh Rory fan!

Irish Tour is one of my favorite albums of all time, IMO, it don't get much better than that.

Do you have any pics of the amps settings?

Do you know where the auction was held?

Was it Rorys brother/manager who put the equipment up for auction?

What else was up for auction?

Yes the brother  had the gear up for Auction/Sale.
There is still an  Ac30 and twin going but they are at 5000 UK pounds .
The funny thing is after hearing this marshall I couldn't begin to imagine he played anything else - it just sounds like all the Rory Albums I listen to and I couldn't imagine the same sound coming from a twin reverb or an ac30, but they were also present at many of his gigs so who knows, I am not a true gear geek I just happened to be lucky to come across this gem

My pal is gone away for the month but he has promised I can do a full inspection when he comes back so i'll update this with pictures
Cheers,

Too cool!  I am also a huge Rory fan!  He was also known (like Ron Wood when he was with the Faces) to plug into a dimed Champ!  Looking forward to pics!

+1 big Rory fan here too! (must have same tastes Jim  :icon_biggrin:). Ronnie's dimed Champ would be the 'Stay With Me' tone, yes?

PS. would love to see pics too bakerlite.
