What type of Orange Drop caps should I be using? Whats the difference between 715P and 716P? Which is more prefered?

There's almost no difference between 715P and 716P. They're both polypropylene dielectric caps. The 716P claims solid copper leads (though they are tinned, so you don't notice this visually).

The 225P orange drops are polyester dielectric, and as a result are noticeably smaller than the 715P/716P caps, for the same capacitance and voltage rating.

Use whichever you like, noting that the sonic differences will be due to the dielectric used, and that caps with similar dielectrics will have a similar sound.

Thanks

Some people say that the 715s are more sterile sounding or strident in the highs, but to be honest I couldn't tell much of a difference between these and Mallory 150s in my latest build.  I used Orange Drops in a couple tweed builds and they sounded great.  I just say use em if you have the room.

I've had good luck with the PS Series Orange Drops. They're polyester (which makes 'em right for circuits from the 70's)  :l2:

Yeah, these are equivalent to the 225P series I mentioned earlier.

The rule of thumb is polyproylene, being a more-perfect dielectric, will tend to sound more hi-fi than polyester dielectric caps. However, the sound of the amp circuit will dominate over the "sound" of the caps used. For example, you will get a bigger sonic change by swapping a 0.022uF cap for any 0.1uF cap (except in a trem oscillator) than you will by swapping a polyester cap for a polypropylene cap.
