D'Mars OD special amp
« on: August 12, 2012, 06:13:59 pm »
This is the new D'Mars OD special amp.  I started off on just clean withOUT the mid boost on.  Then switched to the OD with midboost switch on.

http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11824794&q=hi&newref=1

For illustration purposes, ......... if 0 is clean and "10" is the OD fully cranked ................ the OD here is around 7.  I purposely somewhat cranked the OD to illustrate the range of contrast that the amp can have.

There is a sweet spot that sounds alot like the "clean" channel except with more harmonics, sustain and blooming to it where the notes sort of open up.   On that same scale the OD sweet spot would be maybe "3.5 to 4".  So this OD tone is cranked beyond that and not as "sweet".

On this clip, the trim is around 7, the drive is around 5 and the level is slightly less than 3.  The OD sweet spot is more with the trim around 3-4,  the drive around 4 and the level around 7.

Anyhow,  excuse the mediocre playing.  Hopefully, this will show some of the diversity of the amp.  No pedals were used. I added some EQ, very slight compression and some delay in the mix.

With respect,  Tubenit

I gotta' BIG GRIN on my face right now............THAT is the BEST tone I've heard from ANY of our amps!

More "Dumble-ish" than most real Dumbles, if you ask me!

Well, you just kicked my build into overdrive! Gotta get those parts ordered!!!!!

Also, great playing!

Not sure why that's not working for you?  I can pull it up on several different computers?  Several forum guys commented about it.

Not that great of a tune or playing ............. just a demo of the amp really.

It's working for me now
Who knows why it would not come up before.

The OD sounds nice and fat, I like it!

Is this another circuit that should be made into a pre-drilled turret board?

I like it! That amps got some muscle in it's tone.

Sounds like it wants to take off and soar if you let it.

I listen to alot of Larry Carlton playing with FourPlay where he uses a less overdriven tone that is fairly smooth. I really like his tone that he brings to FourPlay.

So I wanted to demo that this amp has a very CLEAR overdrive tone. And that it has versatile tone.

The clear OD almost sounds like the clean channel but it's warmer, has more sustain and better harmonics.  The clean channel is more percussive, IMO.

Clear overdrive tone with light picking 0- 1:17

Clear overdrive with heavier picking 1:18 -----

Clean channel only  1:30-------

Fat OD  2:05    (note some blooming around 2:09)

Fat OD with delay boosted  2:32

return to Clear OD til end  2:54

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11842172

I am really enjoying the tone that I am getting with this amp!

On the cleaner tone, one of the first things I though of is bell tone. The OD seemed to have a lot of the same quality yet thicker and more sustain. You got me curious about that song now, Ill have to try to you-tube it. Great Work! Platefire
On the right track now<><

OK here's my clip....it ain't much but is a pretty good rep of what the amp sounds like in person.

http://soundcloud.com/dageezer/dumars-noodles1-0

Sorry for the poor recording (some digital clipping here & there) but it's just a straight recording....no editing, some effects added in MixCraft.

DuMars OD Preamp into a 2x6AQ5A PA thru a 1x12 Texas Heat in a closed back ported cab

RCA 12AY7 in V1, Phillips JAN 5751 in V2, RCA 5879 in V3

NO SETTINGS on the amp were changed! All tones were achieved by channel selection, pickup selection, picking attack and guitar volume control adjustment.

Two guitars were used to give an idea of the variation of tones available....I especially like the Tele thru this amp! SPANKY!

0:00 to 4:11 is the ES-150DC

4:12 to end is the '87 Telecaster w/ Bill Lawrence pickups

WHOA !!!!!!!!!!!    That was just SUPER COOL!!!

That amp has tons and tons of tone.  Really superbly CLEAR OD tone!  I love it.

Don't know if it's your playing, speaker, guitar or amp ................. but I think your amp is more articulate and touch sensitive than mine is based on this sound clip!

Bravo!  I am truly impressed.  I like that tone as well as any amp sound clip that I've heard on the forum.  Incredibly tasteful playing too.  You've always played great, but I think your playing has gotten even better.

With the clean, clear OD and FAT OD &  PAB options, ............. you are getting a really huge array of tone options from that amp.

That Texas Heat speaker sure sounds good too.  Loved both guitars but I give the nod a tad more to the Tele with OD stuff going on.

I really appreciate you're sharing this sound clip.  It motivates me even more to get the 3 foot switch stuff going.

VERY COOL tone & playing, my friend!!

Best regards,  Jeff

Great tone and playing. Thanks for posting it.
Were those Lawrence pickups from Bill Lawrence Products or from Bill & Becky? Which model?
Thanks again!

Bill & Becky...L290TL bridge & L200TN Neck
Extremely quiet pickups, but still give the tele twang when you want it.

Thx, Geezer
