crate-a-saurus.
« on: January 17, 2013, 07:36:22 am »
crate 1D amp, you know, the ugly ones made out of old pallets from the 80's. well, i gutted it. yup, cut and frisbeed the SS stuff. building this was like wedging a 292 flatheat V8 in to a fiesta and it fought me to the bitter end. forgot to ground the KT-88 screen PS and lunched a KT-88 - wheee! i'm on a roll... <rolleyes>
this one didn't go so well - it suffers from swiss cheese chassis syndrome... a few things i should have measured three times... ugh!

AX84 SE circuit with some mods - OK, a lot of mods.

pics coming soon - awaiting new dumbphone - USB on droid phone flew south for the winter. fedex says it'll be here tamalley...

attached schema with some telemetry and layout.

I have the CR-1 an have been thinking about doing something like this.
Any tube unit can be brought back to life.
I never meet a tube I didn't like.

SLMs re-issue of the CR-1 is a SE EL84 amp. much better tone from that of the original made w/ SS.

there's a CR-II for sale locally. hmmm...P-P this time?

try not to laugh, at least out loud.  :icon_biggrin:

k. thnx.

the weak link is the speaker. ho-hum sounding with it. it needs a P12Q. not much else will fit well.

Yeah, swiss cheese or not, looks pretty neat to me DL. Nice.

No worries, I haven't quite figured out the prophetic "measure thrice, drillith once". Regards

I have the CR-1 an have been thinking about doing something like this.

may i suggest a smaller tube and simpler ckt. lol! it get's pretty packed in that chassis.

i relocated the main filter and the reason for the cover-plate, so that i could install a speaker with a deeper basket.

have fun jack, i did, even though it was pain.

What are you talking about? Laugh out loud. It looks great.

you two are too kind. thank you brad & dennis.   :icon_biggrin:
