DAKA-WARE chicken head knobs
« on: March 17, 2013, 02:15:34 pm »
I was in my work shop looking for what knobs I have on hand and found a few cream colored raised back chicken head pointer knobs. OK, cool.

I look on the bottom and it says,  DAKA-WARE  CHICAGO. Hmm.... :think1:

So I did a little search and there still in business, but have moved just out side of the city to Carol Stream Il. Davies Molding is the company name. I looked on Mousers web site and what comes up on there listing page as the manufacturer for a raised back chicken head knob they sell, yep, Davies Molding. I'd bet at this point that AES gets them from Davies too.

Here's a web site post that talks about Davies and it also lists a few of other older plastic knob makers in the US.

I remember these ash trays, I'm sure my parents had these at their bowling ally and a few at home many years ago. 1st 1 is black, 2nd is a dark brown.

THIS BLACK BAKELITE ASHTRAY HAS "THE TOPS IN ASHTRAYS BY DAKA-WARE CHICAGO, MADE IN U.S.A. PAT. PEND." ON THE BACK. THE ASHTRAY IS 1 1/8" HIGH BY 5" IN DIAMETER. ASHTRAY HAS MATCH STAND BUILT-IN

Yes, those raised-top chicken head knobs are what I used on my 25L15 (different color though).

And if you get into the minute details of old-Tele collecting, Daka-Ware made the original switch tips on the old Tele's.

Just a brand from the old days, though some folks get pretty crazy about having the original thing on their collectible guitars. I have a Hickok tube tester on which a previous owner added a volt/ammeter to the case to monitor filament voltage and current. He actually put 2 original old Daka-Ware top hat switch tips, same as what was used on all but the earliest Tele's.
