ampeg build, M12,R12R reverbrocket.
« on: March 23, 2013, 07:53:57 am »
hi

so Johns home from military tour . and i promised him an amp.

i have the nobs in the mail.and and i have curly yellow birch rough in my frozen shed .
i need to borrow a planer and get that done . ill check out the speaker cabinet building..... how thick ??

i drill holes. cut the metal and  made the chassis,,, pop rivets the nail middle removed .
mostly hand work file etc ..

so i put a pre amp from the m12 ampeg in the R-12R, Reverb Rocket.

i used some old caps and new . i have the new caps ,,,but ...

also I added the reverb as in the m12 . thats one tube for the reverb instead of 1/2 a tube ,because of the daul pre amp, leaves 1/2 of atube sitting for not much.

the voltages I 'll post later .

i believe that the amp puts out about  15.5 watts .with a 600 ohm resistor .

The amp works great , ,,

on startup everything worked but no volume it was the   guitar jack  ,, and grounding jacks ,, it just needed bigger washers to insulate the ground ,and run a ground wire to the pt ,

it has very strong reverb and tremolo...very strong .

ONE PROBLEM ,,,the reverb , when the pot gets turned up the static sound is amplified ,,IS THIS NORMAL. i have a 25 k pot instead of a 15 k pot .

i was worried about the LED burning out so .i left the cap and resistor there and put three  LEDs  one in parrell and then in series withat two leds in parrell
so even if a LED burns the tremolo should still work .

the wires a not placed but have no effect and any background sound .. |I place them better.

thanks for looking

tom

PS ..................i need batteries for my camera

Nice, very nice Tom.  What static are you referring to in the reverb?  Off the cuff I would say it is not normal.

hi Ed

thanks .
that was lots of work.

the amp is at john's house now .
So i cannot work on the static sound .but the amp is very quiet untill the tremolo and the reverb is on high .
i need to work on that later . at normal sounding levels it's not very loud .

Another forum the 60's ampeg reverbs are said to make noise . possibly from long wires .and mabe not tweaked out?. :think1:

i needed an extra $100 ..to make it nice with Doug's boards and a few things but with my $400  monthly pension.
thats what he  has for  now .

i checked the voltages quickly . then the next day i quickly made the cab from an organ and put the amp in .

John has 4 weeks off ,now . so hes playing it now .

when he starts work again I will change the input jacks connections .  so he can mix the preamps together .

AS of now,,, the smaller preamp anode resistors are 120k and they need to be 240k or so .

John has already bonded to this amp .. he wanted my nice old working caps .in part of the build,
thats because of  the bumblebees i gave him.... that are in his guitar.the 50 's  bumble bees i have are not good enough for an amp build.  :l2:

the amp is about 15 watts hoping the tubes may last longer because he playes alot .

tom

now that john is back i can do sound clips of amps . :worthy1:

Tom, I agree with Ed, you did a great job and that's a wonderful gift to your son.

You might need a few pieces of shielded wire in a few runs to make it quieter when the verb and trem are full up.

Nice.

What is the OT's primary impedance for a R12R reverberocket?

I had a 1965 Ampeg Reverberocket 2 that sounded anemic, because of the tiny stock OT. I replaced it with the OT for a Deluxe Reverb and it opened right up.

But my problem undoubtedly developed over 45 years of use & abuse, your problem sounds like a sudden onset. Your voltages are all good?
