Strange Days was the first Doors album recorded with a studio musician on bass on most of the tracks, and this continued on all subsequent studio albums.[17] Manzarek explained that his keyboard bass was well-suited for live situations but that it lacked the "articulation" needed for studio recording.

He would build his solos slowly and keep raising the pitch higher and higher
He was a master at creating solos
I listened to his playing more than many guitar players
