6L6 input grid resistor always tied over to pin 6????

It seems that most layout diagrams show the input grid resistor always jumps over to pin 6 on the 6L6.  Why?  Is it just a layout thing?

Isn't  pin 6  an "empty" pin?

I thinks it's done for 2 reasons....

1 - It's best to have the grid resistor as close to the grid as possible - as in directly on the tube socket pin - and...
2 - Like you said, pin 6 is unused/not connected internally therefor it makes a very convenient and sturdy place to mount the resistor....

May be other reasons too....but that's the way I understand it.

Most Fender amps mount a 470Ω/1W screen resistor between pins 6 and 4. And the 1.5KΩ grid stopper is mounted between pins 1 and 5.

It's just convenient. Pins 1 and 6 are both available on a glass 6L6 or 6V6 .
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
