Re-building
« on: September 08, 2013, 09:44:38 pm »
I have a Deluxe Reverb RI that I re-built with a Hoffman board. I want to make this a Vibrolux Reverb.
I need to change out an output socket and clean up some wiring anyway, now I'm getting excited that maybe I have a new project that could end up with an amp I really like. New transformers and I think I'll strip the board and start over with new components. My soldering skills are a little better now than when I built the DR.
So, is it all-right to strip the board, clean up the old turrets and use it again, repopulated with new components? I've been into the amp several times changing this and that, heating some of the turrets multiple times. Or should I put a new board in it?

If you want to move from a pair of 6V6 tubes to a pair of 6L6 tubes the heaters will draw and additional 900 milliamps (0.9 amps). Make sure the present PT can supply this additional heater current demand. If it is the stock Fender PT that they use in the reissue amps I doubt that Fender overspec'ed the heater winding by an amp. Sometimes people will add an additional small filament transformer for this purpose if there is room on the chassis. The plate voltage of your current circuit would be a bit lower than I like to run 6L6 tubes at but that's a matter of preference. I'd end up just swapping in the appropriate rated PT.
Some of the most amazing music in history was made with equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

Maybe all new iron. I replaced the stock Fender pieces with Mercury Magnetics, choke too. And 2 10" speakers, maybe Copperheads.
But what about the circuit board? Is there any reason not to use the one I have?

No, well only 1 that I can think off.

Guys do it all the time. As long as the turrets are still solidly held in place in the board no problem.

Everything is still tight and solid although not as pretty as it once was. Thanks.
