Ok, I am giving everyone the chance to make fun of me once again.  I have been screwing with this tune for about two months.  I could only do dribs and drabs cause everyone around here complains about the noise.  So I had to keep waiting until the house was empty.  I am not happy with the vocals and wanted to do another take, but now I'm sick and sound like Froggy from Our Gang.  I punched in the lead tonight and to give you an idea of how long its been since I've played, I raised a half inch blister on my ring finger - what a puss....  Anyway, I am DONE with this one, time to move on.  We used to do this song in one of my bands back in the early 80's.  Being an Ian Gillan fan, this tune really caught my attention with Bruce Dickenson's vocal acrobatics - been a fan ever since.  I used to be able to nail this one.  However, unlike me, his voice has not deteriorated, he is singing better than ever these days - amazing!

Single backing track with drums and bass, three rhythm guitar tracks, one lead track, two vocal tracks (which didnt quite match up in a few places -oops!)

Oscar Schmidt strat with EMGs (humbucker in bridge and two singles), Cry Baby, Tube preamp with just a little push, Major peeling the paint.  Another blunt instrument approach.  Lots of noise.  I hope you guys like it.

Well....that sounds like fun BUT.....
First,,,, I'll say it's 10 times better than any attempt that I could make......I could never sing even close to that well
I remember trying this as a cover back in the late 80's and could never get past the fact that we couldn't sync up the intro bends.....nice job there

It does kinda sound like Purple covering Maiden,,,,due to the Gillan'esque vocal inflections
My favorite part is where you NAILED the lead guitar tone

SG, that IS the outtake!  Yeah, not enough grunt in the vocals, I should have mixed those WAY back! My tenor voice left me about 20 years ago, now its all head to get the range - too wimpy for this tune.  Have you heard Bruce lately?  Amazing....  Like you said, this is not an easy song to play, even though the chord structure is pretty simple.  Lots of quick picking on the verse.  I used to play it with my keyboard player anchoring the notes.  I could bend up to them and it sounded pretty good at the beginning.  After all, a band only needs ONE guitar player!

S&myamp,  Why yes that WAS me on bass and drums!  Yeah, that's the ticket!  I don't know who is playing bass on that backing track, but they WAIL!!!   On the break in the middle after the solo, WOW!  No, there is no rotovibe, just wah.  The amp was in another room and you can hear the feedback right at the beginning of the lead.  It was on about 4.5 and just beginning to breath.  It sounds really good when you let it run.  That's why everyone has to be out of the house!

I think it was pretty good actually. I think the vocals could have been brought out a little more in the mix (but that could be my computer speakers at fault there.) The guitar work was good. It didn't sound like Maiden's guitars, but then again you didn't have their exact setup either.  The solo work was good too.

Yeah, all the Maiden guys are using modified JMP-1 preamps probably direct with a little monitor noise.  They are getting that rich creamy - better than JCM800 - distortion.  The Major has a more distinct distortion and the more you get into the output tubes, the more searing it gets.  I've never heard that in any other amp.  Problem is, you have to open it up to get there.

SG, when you hit a bad note, look at the keyboard player with a WT hell look and shake your head!  Keyboard players are easy pickins!

OK, that was pretty cool!  GREAT vocals!  Smoking lead.  I can't believe how fast you can rip those notes out.   I actually liked it. 

Because of the quality of the song, we'll only take 2 points off for the strat thing.

I remember some guys were Maiden madmen!
Not exactly what I was into.
But, always liked this particular Maiden song.

Good job on it.
You have a great range on the vox.

Not familiar with the original but what I hear is rocken, great sounding tough rock vocal and burning guitar with even though a studio type recording seemed to have a live feel to it----which IMH0 is hard to do doing a track at a time. Good Job! Platefire

Madison, yeah, I was never a Maiden guy.  I just liked this tune and the way Dickinson sang it.  Ok, next time I'll leave out the voice and  turn up the guitars!
