what to do with a butchered bandmaster head!
« on: November 07, 2013, 11:09:55 am »
A customer brings in a silverface bandmaster head for repairs that he bought off E-Bay not working.Well it was butchered beyond repair.I didn't take a picture but it was a mess.
So the guy who did the butchering drills umpteen holes in the chassis so he could install all these terminal strips and hand wire it.Absolute mess!
  So what to do?
Dump the chassis and rebuild it into a 6V6 Overdrive Rocket, that's what!

Here are some finished pics.I left the grillecloth and cabinet untouched. It is 22 watts of ripping amp now! Typical dumble Lite circuit.

Pretty cool! Do you have FenderCare?  :l2:

Woulda liked to have seen the "before" pix. Probably look like some of my builds, LOL.

No, he's in Canada. He must have Traynor care.

Oh,let me see....silver faceplate......silverface transformers.......chassis was serial # silverface....Cabinet may have been a blackface cause of the grillecloth.Don't know for sure cause it was so butchered inside that it's hard to tell if he just stuffed the chassis into the cabinet.

I bet phsyconoodler knows exactly what he's talking about.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

You did read the original post, right?

A customer brings in a silverface bandmaster head ... Dump the chassis and rebuild it into a 6V6 Overdrive Rocket ...

It's a new amp build in a new chassis with a new faceplate and knobs. I'm guessing the only things worth salvaging from the original amp were the transformers and the existing cabinet (whatever its vintage).
