choke question
« on: November 28, 2013, 08:08:43 am »
I have an old UTC choke 200ma 20 henries.
Is 20 henries to large to use for a bass amp?
I know most are around 5 or less.
thanks,
Ernie

The only thing "too big" about it is that at 20H and 200mA, it is probably big and heavy.

No problem using it with a bass amp. It would be really nice to save such an item for a choke-input supply on say, a 2x 6L6 class A amp.

Yep, perfect application. The Williamson had a choke-input power supply, and that 20H 200mA choke carried the current of the whole amp.

It's a shame to use it any other way, really, because it would likely be under-utilized.

Might be useful in something like the 5E6 Bassman that has the choke upstream of the plate node.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
