Deluxe Reverb Chassis for $40 offer
« on: March 10, 2014, 04:14:10 pm »
I offered $40 on one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321331311979?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I will let you know what I think when I get it.  Guy says original faceplates or reissue faceplates fit, but backplates fit Mojo.  I am interested in seeing the quality.  I will let you guys know as there are many things that can be built with this tube lineup.

The guy has four good Ebay feedback comments on the chassis, so I have to think they have the appropriate front angle, even though you really can't tell for sure from the pictures.

He accepted the offer.  He says it is exactly like the original and insured me it has a slope as the original.  The only difference is the rear holes.  That is what he said.  I will let you guys know.  I would guess he got the layout from Mojo and added the corners to fold it.

His feedback is good and accepts returns.

I have made one of these before and I can assure you if it fits like the original, it is a great deal.  I will know in a few days and let you guys know.

The photos have an illusion which in one makes it look like where the light is there is a slope and then get straight.  If you look at the photo of the bottom it looks more like there slant to the front as you cannot see any of the front or back and to do this you would have to be exactly directly above.

Like I said, I will follow up.

I sent the guy a question asking "if the front panel was slanted as it looks square from the picture".

I'll post his answer as soon as he gets back.

For $40 it's a steal, especially with shipping included. He has 10 left.

I don't know if anyone else sees what I'm seeing but, at least in the first two pictures, what it looks like to me is that the BACK panel has the angle. Zoomed in on the first and second pic and it sure looks like the front panel is 90o but looking at the back it looks like it has the angle.

As if the chassis was bent up correctly and when the holes were drilled wrong the pattern was placed on it the wrong way(front to back).

I sent the guy a question asking "if the front panel was slanted as it looks square from the picture"....
...For $40 it's a steal, especially with shipping included...

Make sure this guy knows the difference between the front panel and the back. I'd ask him if the side closest to the tube socket holes has the angle or the side furthest from it. This could have been an oopsie.

Anyone else see that too, or is it just me?

The third, fourth, and fifth pictures look right so maybe it's just that the way the camera was held and the way the photo is laid out in the first two. Either these five pics are of two different chassis or it's an optical illusion.

Our brains are used to up being up and if the angle is skewed and it may just be that since our point of reference is off our brain trys to compensate for that and make sense of what we're seeing. We may just be seeing the angle in the skewed picture as a 90 when it's not.

(If anyone has some time to kill and photo shop try rotaning the pic and cropping it square to see if it looks different, I'd be curious to see if this is an optical illusion)
 Crazy Nuts Illusion!

Received the chassis.  Much better than I expected.  Heavier than expected.  Faceplates line up.  Fits in my 66 Deluxe.  I just ordered 2 more. :icon_biggrin:

3 Days to my door.  I am sure the guy was expecting me to let others know as the one I have is really nice.

It is a Fender chassis.

Thanks Timbo.  Just wanted to pass along the news.  This chassis can be used to build just about any fender Brown face and newer.

Another thing is they are not aluminum.  They are steel.

Wow... then the chassis isn't what his ad says it is...

That's also some pretty thick steel, judging from the pictures.

Yes, if you need one or may need one, its a deal.  It is just a hair shy of 7.25 from front to back measuring on the bottom.  Other than that, I would not use a brass plate or the pots would not fit with the faceplate.

I couldn't believe it, that is why I offered to get 2 more.  I don't have anything to use them for right now, but I am sure something will come up since I normally make my chassis.

Original Faceplates, Mojo no name, reisssue fender and TAD which are expensive, but look like the real thing.

I have the original off of mine since I play the amp sometimes and ii is a 66 model. It matches perfect.  I have a silverface on my 66 that is scratched.

I have a backplate from Mojo, but it is on an amp, but measuring it looks like it will fit.  I have a cad drawing of the mojo chassis and placed it on a printout and it looks like a good fit.

I am quite certain it is the Mojo layout as they will send you  pdf of one if you ask. I do quite a bit of metal work and this looks to be a great replica.  Before I got it and thought it was aluminum I was thinking I would just weld the corners.  Not necessary as I cannot twist it unless I were to put it in a vice and put a pull bar on it.

I have offered $65 for 2 more of them.  If he accepts I will have 5.  I going to give a couple of friends 1.  I will have 3 because you can build just about anything with them.

Right after you posted this I went to him and asked the question about the front panel being bent.....no reply.

So then I saw that you received one and it was good so I offered him $40 for one.....no reply.

SO  I figured, "he must be busy", so I offered him $40 again. no reply,,,,, and again, no reply......he let my offer expire 3 times now.....please don't tell me he gave you 2 more for $65

I don't want to believe that people just like you better than me, but that seems to be all I've got for an answer at this point.

This isn't the first time I've gotten this feeling  :dontknow:  :help:

No, I have not gotten any under $35.  I have gotten 5 and sold 3 of them.  I got the first one for $40 and the rest for $35.00.  I sold them to friend for $40.  Could have gotten more, but we have discussed this and you don't profit from amp buddies.

Maybe Ed just got in at this guys start up and now after the guy has sold a few at a slightly reduced price to get the ball rolling he's standing his ground on his price?    :dontknow:

You should buy 1 of this     :m2      makes all your troubles seem miles away.

Maybe Ed just got in at this guys start up ...

I think this is the case.

When this thread started, I don't recall his ad having the 52 watchers it does at the moment. I know I sent an offer, and didn't get a response. I think he's now selling enough to not need to take a reduced price.

Yeah, it would be better if he responded and politely declined, but I don't have a problem with the situation.

The whole thing is strange somewhat.   I am not sure the same person selling them is making them.  I say this because they are listed as aluminum and I ordered them with the full intention of welding the corners.  Well they are steel and the questions I got answered were not as technical as I expected.

I guess if you want one it will cost $49.99.  The chassis I received, I would not make in any production for even $50.00.  Like I said, I have made fender chassis.  The last one I made was smaller and for a princeton reverb build and I said them that MoJo's price is good.  Weber is a little better, but they will not fit an old fender cab correctly.

What I am saying is if you want to punch a blank aluminum, go for it.  A fender Deluxe Reverb chassis is overkill for most builds, but think of what you can do with all the prepunched goodness.  The only problem I have with them is tube down.

If you are like me and do not need one, 50 buck is still a killer price. :icon_biggrin:

I think I'll have another sir.

Oh yea, Sivergun, it has nothing to do with liking me better.  It's Karma.  Deluxe Reverb's are clean amps for us pickin dudes and iffin you want to crank them into overdrive well that is not what the amp was intended for.  Karma knows you you want to abuse the Deluxe.  Karma thinks I a boy WITH SOUTHERN CHARM who would never abuse an amp in this way. :l2:

I will say there is not much of a better sound of a BlackFace Deluxe on 8 unless it is a Super Reverb, but both have to have the NFB disconnected.  Then it is just ratty goodness.
