epiphone valve jr
« on: September 27, 2014, 09:17:50 am »
hay all hello from texas!
1st off I have an ephiphone vj 5 watt jobbie,
having trouble with one of them,
seems to work but at a lower volume
since I'm having trouble with it was thinking of hand wiring it
since I got to open it up anyway,
I have never made a turret board before, so is there one on the market?
or is there a simple one line print that is easy to follow?
remember now I'm an electrician not an et
so really a picture with where all the wires go would be great
any way thanks!
john

Are you using the on-board speaker? If so, is it the original speaker, and which jack do you have it plugged in to? Plugged in all the way? (I know the last one sounds silly, but between the style of jack and short cord, it's sometimes hard to tell if it's in all the way)

Well, I've never made the mistake of not having the speaker plugged in. Or in the right jack. Never made that mistake at all...

Seriously, because I have made that mistake before, I make it a point to check for every way I might have messed up and everything outside the amp chassis that could go wrong before disassembling an amp.

Well, that 2-hour repair job is possibly a HBP personal best. LOL.

go to "turret boards . com"  (remove all spaces from link)
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Uh oh! This is how it started for a few of us, Epiphone Valve Junior and a soldering iron. Next thing you know you have a half a dozen amps in various stages of build, tearing transformers from anything you can get your hands on, and lurking around yard sales and flea markets buying anything with tubes.
Welcome to our insanity my friend. Just look for and follow the safety rules, these voltages can be lethal.

Modded mine every which way, ended up gutting it and putting a 5F2A in it. One of my all time favorite amps.
