Aluminum Chassis

Hello all
I just ordered 14ga aluminum blank chassis 17x6.5x2.5 and had two questions.
I didn't realize the corners aren't welded together.  Is this a problem?  Also, I realized beforehand that it had an outward lip but now with the corner realization, I am wondering if this will be a problem, as well in terms of weight and putting it inside head cab (dowel rods?).  I was going to use it for a Supro Thunderbolt 6420 build.  All in all, the blame will fall on me and my amateur club membership but just wanted to know.

Probably not. 14ga aluminum is pretty thick.

If you were concerned because you had really heavy transformers, you could use little brackets or aluminum angle pieces to join the sides at the corners.

I don't see problems. Many geetar-amps are built this way.

In 14 gauge, a smaller chassis would be ample even with loose corners. At 17 inch it may be twisty naked in hand, but you will eventually nail it to a board (the cabinet), right?

Inward, outward... just cut your cabinet so there's plenty of space. Outie lips mean you can just drop a bolt through board and lip, get nut-driver or end-wrench between cabinet and chassis. (Clip-nuts like Doug stocks are neater.) Innie lips mean you must run a long bolt the extra 2.5" and honk on the chassis--- Traynor 7189 BassMate did this, it stays together on the road, but every time you drop it the chassis bends a little, the bolts keep loosening up.
