Inkscape to scale

How do you get Inkscape to draw in scale?

            Brad    :dontknow:

Edit; This came up in another thread and so not to hi-jack the thread I posted the question here.

I am guessing because I do not use Ink-scape.  Usually holding the shift key will force proportional scale in a lot of programs.

I'm sorry to hijack your thread, BUT you have to see this....and you know I'm always trying to get a good laugh  :icon_biggrin:

I'm sure you and others will appreciate my low-tech approach to this age old problem.

You are looking at the old faceplate TAPED to the screen of my computer, to get me to work in scale in Paint.

Of course, since the faceplate was 17" wide I needed  to find a monitor that was wide enough to fit it.  :l2:

Go to File then document properties.  Custom size so your faceplate will easily fit the screen.  Then change the units to inches.  You will also want to change to inches at the top of the screen.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks
Mike

That is funny.  You will find Inscape much easier to use for that purpose as it comes with a scale.

Thanks
Mike

Suggestion for getting started.  Make a black rectangle equal to the face side of your chassis.  Just put any rectangle on the page and resize it using the H an W at the top of the page.  Set your X and Y so one of the left hand corners is at 0,0.  Will make it much easier to place the rest of what you want and you won't have to buy a larger monitor.  The cursor will show the x,y position where the cursor point is.  You will find this to be useful.

I tried to send you one of my .svg files but couldn't send it.  This is the inscape file format.  You will probably find you will need to convert your .svg file to a .eps file so your printer can print it.  I have never had any luck converting a .eps file back to a .svg file.

You will want to review what the printer's product looks like because not all Arial RT something or other bolds are the same and he may need to make little tweaks to gets some of the words to line up properly.  Easy for the printer guys to do and doesn't take much time.  I fax my finish faceplates and back plates to my printer and he sends me back proofs.  He shows the total width at the top of the page so I can verify we are on the same page.  Once everything is right I have him print them on vinyl.  He laminates the vinyl to protect the vinyl from damage.  I don't actually see him until I go to pick them up and pay for them.

Thanks
Mike
