Adding blues Jr style Reverb
« on: December 01, 2014, 07:15:09 pm »
Im working on my custom amplifier. Its the modified AC30 that i started. I want to add a blues jr style reverb. I believe that reverb is solid state and no tubes are used and someone correct me if i am wrong, would eliminate the need of a reverb driver transformer. I do know that I will need a new power supply of around 15v for this circuit. Since my modified AC30 will have a cathode follower master volume and full tone stack I was curious if I could throw this reverb Idea right after the master volume like that of a blues jr? Also will need to find a reverb pan compatible with the Fender Part No 050394/Accutronics Part No 4EB3C1B

Thanks everyone.

Not to take away from you wanting to add something to your build, but, they make several very good sounding reverb pedals now. Hard to beat them for sound, price and size.

The blues jr. SS reverb doesn't sound very good.

But thats a very good point. Would be easier to switch on and off if its on the pedal board rather than in the amp...

There is one tube reverb.  Tubenbit has posted on this; and Ampeg & Traynor use one tube "capacitor" driven reverb - no reverb tranny.   Not as lush as Fender reverb but maybe good enough.  Some players insist on reverb in the amp.

Also, the SS Belton "chip" doesn't even need a tank.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but this is how I did it. There are some pictures on the facebook page showing how I wired up the Brick so I could connect 2 filament wires for the 5vdc needed, and a signal in/signal out wire. The schematic is at the bottom of the thread. I used a medium delay Brick.
This arrangment might not suit everybody, but the fellow I built the amp for loves it. He likes light, subtle reverb, not the surfy kind. I think for that you'd want the long delay Brick anyway.
