« on: December 21, 2014, 08:20:02 pm »
Got a Blues Junior to work on that is worn out. Was hoping to talk the guy into Doug's conversion kit but was wondering what would be a realistic amount of time to alot for the conversion? thx, joe

That's a tough question!
How fast are you at as soldering and working without rushing?
I am considering getting this from Doug too.
His project files are fantastic and once you have the schematic they are a nice visual bonus.
I like my coffee breaks and I do amp stuff for FUN not professionally so I would reckon about 6 hours from tearing it down to flicking the switch with the lamp limiter for first start up diagnosis! After that it would depend on how many errors I made! But with a bit of luck I'd be there.
I'm sure some of the long time tweakers here would be quicker but that's just my 2c
Probably doesn't answer your question but its different for everyone with the variables.
Look at his build thread and project files and imagine yourself doing it to get an idea.
Good luck!
Cheers,

Yeah, that's hard to say

It is a boatload of work for sure
I would guess that if I had zero interruptions I could do it in 8 hours

Eight hours seems like a lot of labor. Is there any drilling required on the chassis?

Well yes,
You have to mount the main circuit board in the chassis so you have to drill some mounting screw holes
The tube board uses the existing chassis holes
I also drilled a hole for a Fender style fuse holder

Yes again, it is a ton of work|

You are starting with a gutted chassis with nothing in it except the PT, the OT and the power switch
Then you are building a hand wired amp inside that chassis, wire by wire.
It's not fast and it's not an easy job if you are not good at doing scratch builds

It should not be a surprise if you have looked at my build pictures page and you look at everything that happned during that build
Look at those pictures and try and guestimate how many hours it takes to do all that

You can bet it will take more time than you estimate, especially if you haven't done scratch-builds a lot. There will probably be a good deal of time tied up in, "Oh #$%^, I didn't think about that beforehand..."
