L'il Maggie

Well I've done another small box amp. L'il Maggie is a Magnatone M2. This amp uses a single stage true pitch shifting vibrato and a pair of 6GW8s for the power amp. My PeeWee Hammond (AO-44 conversion) had a gender change! I fixed a few shortcomings in this entry level Magnatone and also added a selector switch for FM Vibrato or bias vary tremolo. It all sounds pretty good. Here's the link...

It's idling hotter than that right now. Gotta cool it off some. Sounds good, no red-plating  but I don't want to cook those expensive tubes.

You guys keep pushing and I'll probably cave in. Then you'll know the real reason I don't do sound clips.   

I suppose I could buy a decent mic, a laptop, a nice sound card, software, etc. and just git 'er done. But I gotta put seeds in the garden first!

Again ,excellent work!  If I was to "steal" the trem/vibrato that goes to the 220k grid Rs, do I match the switched one to the grid ones?  Mine are  470k.

I just used 220K because that's what the circuit I copied used. My amp has 270K grid resistors and the model 421 that I stole the idea from used 100K grid resistors. I don't think the value is critical.

These old Maggies are something else for sure--I just finished a Maggie 113, it's over at AmpGarage. Circuit is quite similar to yours but 220K V1 plates and conventional tremolo, tube rectified and uses 2x6V6.

I just saw it. Great looking amp! Very clean and neat and the layout looks very logical. Sure looks better than any real Magnatone I ever saw!   

Would you want to share your schematic with Hoffman member terminalgs? He does the magnatoneamps.com website. I don't think he has a schematic for the 113.

Fantastic Steve! Sorry to see Pee Wee go but L'il Maggie seems to have stolen people's hearts? I agree that at least a Bass & Treb would've been cool but oh well. I often wondered about the minimal power filtration just looking at the schems too. Looking at the chassis had me thinking of another project for Doug's recently made ones? (I've got two un-drilled waiting for something like this  )

Kag since the photo isn't visible likely to protect the innocent, are you referring to the MOVs w/ trimming resistors clones?

That's what I thought, thank you Franco. Have you tried this yet? Is it verified to work & sound the same in a known circuit?

I've spoken to Gary C before, he's a great resource of information and very nice gentlemen. He also was skeptical of the performance using anything other than authentic parts (but this makes sense for several reasons.
 
The main thing about using twelve parts to replace two is that it would cluster-up & ruin Sluckey's sweet turret board layout using the originals.

but on the link I posted you can read the whole story of those replacement and, yes, they where tested and seems that the thing function as the original or very close to it

I had interest on this thing because I've an old italian amp (that I've to rebuild) that use the same Magnatone vibrato patent (2 varistors, not 4)
