Why Silvergun has not been around
« on: June 16, 2015, 11:49:18 am »
I've been in touch with SG, (Dave) in the last few months a couple of times, PM's, so has Ritchie200, (Jim) and Dave asked me to fill the guys in for him. A quote from the last PM he sent me a few days ago;

"My father's lungs are finally giving out on him. He has been fighting emphysema has been on oxygen for the last 10 years, but due to his recent cancer treatments he has been very weak.
During the past few weeks he has developed pneumonia and this has all added up to the end of the road."

His father is now on hospice care.

Dave's also had to take the reins of the family welding machine repair business including learning how to do the books. (There also seems to be some alleged possible monkey business that was going on with the companies assets.)

This is why he hasn't had time to hang out in the last few months here.

Great guy SG is.

Yeah he is.   :icon_biggrin:

Just doing what Dave asked. He's very busy with all that's going on with the family business, let alone trying to take care of his father.

It took a few weeks for him to get back to me.

I just saw this thread today after seeing the Joe Cocker news Jim told me about yesterday. I recently noticed SG replying a few days ago on a random post but didn't PM or say anything since his last text update to me about 1- 11/2 months ago on everything. I've just been keeping everything respectful & quiet. He basically said the same as Brad reports. His cab making stint was a way to keep busy in a therapeutically positive way until it was then an employee was found to have taken financial advantage almost causing the company to close. This forced him to learn & take control of things there as well to save things and he wasn't exactly sure he was going to be able to pull it all off? At the time he was scrambling with his father's condition too. Like everything was crashing around him at the same time. I too had a father pass from a lung issue - pulmonary fibrosis. Nothing good to say about it and I remember waking up gasping for breath for months afterwards. SG/Dave IS a great dude as you all know. Many here was inspiring him to commit to start playing more too just before all this came up. Hopefully he gets his life back in order soon but it just takes time. It's really nice that the side benefit from learning & discussing amp & other stuff here is the real-life human side and interaction we have with each other that rubs off & influences more maybe than we realize? This place has helped me when I was down and in numerous other ways too - very thankful for you all. Wishing SG nothing but the best.

Thanks for all of your support guys.
This has definitely been the most challenging 6 months I could have ever imagined.

Sadly, my father has finally lost his battle with his inability to breathe, and passed away overnight on Father's Day, June 21st
He was in a Hospice residence facility for a week where we had a chance to say goodbye and be comforted by the fact that he was not suffering.

We are saddened by the loss of such a great man, but are finding comfort in the pictures and memories that he left behind.
He was 79, and had spent 32 hard years with Conrail on the railroad as a brakeman. Most of my memories as a young kid were watching him come and go from work at all hours of the day, and in all weather conditions.
I could never thank him enough for the struggles he overcame to raise a family of 6 kids in a small row home.
He will be missed by many.

So sorry Dave for the loss of your father.

We all have to pass, but we all leave a legacy in who we have raised and touched and loved that lives on.

Keep me in your heart for a while
If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for a while
When you get up in the mornin' and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for a while
There's a train leavin' nightly called "When All is Said and Done"
Keep me in your heart for a while

Keep me in your heart for a while

Keep me in your heart for a while
Sometimes when you're doin' simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile
You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for a while
Hold me in your thoughts
 Take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
 When the winter comes
 Keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Great old photos.  Like you said, so many memories of a great man.  I hope you find solace in those memories.

Silvergun,

Glad you had a great relationship with your father!  Sounds like he was an honorable man and a hard worker.  Hope you will carry with you
many good memories even in the midst of your sorrow.

I have to think that some of the great values you've demonstrated on the forum (such as your contribution to others by making great cabinets for forum members very inexpensively) had to have been passed on to you from your dad.

Respectfully,  Jeff

Thanks again guys...
Sometime earlier this year I just stopped talking, and that is another trait I got from my dad.
I don't want that fact to leave you guys with the impression that I don't care....your words mean a lot.

I've got some work to do to get back to mental clarity and I'm slowly getting back to the things I enjoy.

I haven't stopped reading.

I have to think that some of the great values you've demonstrated on the forum (such as your contribution to others by making great cabinets for forum members very inexpensively) had to have been passed on to you from your dad.
Actually,,,that was also partially an attempt to give us something more to talk about and give him something to feel a part of...
As with most father/son relationships, we eventually ran out of things to talk about and I wanted to show him how thankful I was for the traits I learned from him.
He loved looking at the pictures and joking around about how he could never cut a straight line.
I was trying to give him something to get out of bed for.....only problem was that his body wouldn't allow it anymore.

I will take away a reminder to never take this workshop for granted and enjoy the tools that he always wished he would have had.
He was always limited by the tools and workspace in the back of our basement, and I know it made him proud to see me do more.

ALL of you guys....THANKS...really
