Tremolux Chassis Source

Guys,

Can anyone point me to a place I can buy a Tweed Tremolux chassis?  I asked Doug and he didn't know so I thought you guys may know a place.  I want one with the correct screen printing and number of holes as well.  The Bandmaster is close but the printing is wrong and there is a hole for a standby and ground switch.

I am hoping to find an exact replica of a Fender chassis if that is possible.  I would hate to have to build my own even if I could :0)

I can't say I've ever seen a repro tweed Tremolux chassis.

I also kick myself for having sold a '55 Tremolux, as I like it better than the tweed Deluxes. I really like the trem...

Fender did a reissue of the amp.  Check with their parts department.  It will probably have "EC" on it somewhere.

That is a good idea except when I have called before on stuff like that they won't sell just a chassis.  There is a guy in Thailand named Songwut that does chassis and plates but not for a Tremolux.  This will be a personal build (not for sale) so I want to build a solid replica.  I hope a really cool chassis shows up...

Tone Quest Report mag. did an interview not long ago, with an amp builder who builds 5G9's.

IIRC, they are clones in chassis, circuit and cab shape/size. He might be willing to sell a chassis.

Call him, David. Ask him who builds the 5G9, then you can look at the guys web site and then call or email him about a chassis.

Davids a nice guy, easy to talk with. I know you don't like to blow your own horn but if you tell him who you've played for, that will open the door wide for you. Heck he talks with me. 

If you have no luck I'll dig through my back copies and find it for you.

So look close Willabe at the panel in this link.  Notice there is only a Pilot, on/off , and fuse...  All the chassis I have found have too many holes (standby / ground).

You do want an exact clone. 

A standby with a 5U4 rectifier, no controlled warm up, is a good thing. The ground switch won't do anything with a 3 wire power cord, so it's dead weight.

Has a high/low and only 2 inputs.  It is different.  I think I will find the schematic and see what they have done different.

More than that. Only 3 knobs. Lost a volume and the depth controls.

Did a search for EC Tremolux and their saying it's a single channel 50's tweed deluxe, 5Y3, 2x6V6,3x12AX7, with grid bias and bias trem but only trem speed no depth control. Has built in power attenuator. Hand wired, $1999.00.

Does not say which PI. 5E3 has concertina PI, 5G9 has LTPI.

5E3 and 5G9 have the same preamp and controls, 4x input jacks, 2x volume, single tone. 5E3 has 5Y3 rectifier, 5G9 uses 5U4.

5E3 is K bias, 5G9 is grid bias. 5G9 has extra 12AX7 for grid bias trem with speed and depth controls.

So it's more 5G9 than 5E3. Wonder why they stayed with the 5Y3 rectifier tube?

Their probable saying it's based on the 5E3 because it way more well known than the 5G9.

I'm afraid you may be right.  Well if it comes to that I would certainly make more than one for any others desiring a correct chassis.  We'll see....

I can't keep the alphabet soup tweed amp models straight without constantly looking back at the Fender Field Guide, but i do remember that Weber, a few years back, did a special run of chassis for one of the less common models.  Can't remember which one.  Maybe if you were to do some agitating on the various amp boards, and get enough people to commit to buying one (or more) if they were made available, Weber could be persuaded to make them?

The brown face tremolux that http://www.seasidechassisdesign.com/more-completed-chassis-.html sells is from my chassis data I had him make for me to fit an original brownface Tremolux head cab I owned.  The faceplates are available on ebay or I got mine from a EU dealer.


He could build a tweed tremolux chassis if you give him size and he does punch some stuff.

I talked to these guys a few days ago and they don't do any chrome plating or screen printing.  Their stuff looks nice however.

No such thing, not anymore. Webber used to have one and one other company did also but I can't remember. I just finished my Tweed 5G9(a must have) and I wound up using Mojotone's http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/chassis-fender-tweed/Tweed-Narrow-Panel-Super-Style-5F4-Pro-5E5A-Chassis#.ViOqMFX3aJI. Exactly what you need but faceplate is incorrect. I'm opting to have a plate made for me eventually, I already spoke to Mojotone's techs about all the spacing but   I had to carefully measure everything out. If you have any questions just ask. I did use Mercy PT so I can get as close as possible to current specs and use the 5U4GB

Just read this thread over and thank you Ed, the other company was Marsh. That faceplate would work, minus the half/full switch.
