Little Walter Gut Shots

For those interested in the guts of a Little Walter amp here are a few pics.  I think this was his 22W amp...

Ha, he's got 4 AuriCap's in it. 

All octal? 2x6V6's? What's the tube lineup?

(In the 1st pic, he separated the OT's CT out on purpose from the 2 plate wires when he could have twisted the 3 together since where the CT is hooked up is right on the way. Same thing with the PT for the secondary high voltage wind, CT red/yellow could have been twisted with the 2x red leads.)

That 10w cathode resistor on the power tubes gets pretty HOT, and those little Ecaps don't like a lot of heat.

Could you separate them to give the resistor a bit more air.

In the old days Phil was building a Fender 5B6 Bassman circuit from Tino Zottola's book.

That was the first thing that jumped out at me, too. Placing them close together is one thing. A cable tie is just plain unwise. I was in Guitar Center just this afternoon and saw a Little Walter amp. $2400. All I recall is that it has three knobs and it was covered with tweed.

I am thinking Lil Walter amps has made both 5B6 Bassman and 5C3 Deluxe "type" amps?

The second photo from the top (original post) shows 4.7M to ground on the input jacks and 270K plate resistors.  That looks closer to the 5C3 schematic values then the 5B6 schematic.

So, I'm thinking this is a 5C3 Deluxe type amp using 270k plate resistors instead of the original 250k plate resistors and 4.7M resistors instead of 5M resistors ............ etc ...........

Seems he substituted the (nowadays) odd values with the closest standard values.

Good info! The "5B6" is a clue...

... I'm thinking this is a 5C3 Deluxe type amp ...

Close; it looks like an exact match to a 5B3 Deluxe, including grounding one side of the heater string.

Ha, he's got 4 AuriCap's in it. 

And the rest of the film caps look like the same no-name "yellow caps" (polyester dielectric) recommended by radio restorers, and which I used in my 25L15-type amp.
