Snow in North Carolina
« on: January 22, 2016, 08:28:12 am »
Getting LOTS of cardinals & gold finch.   Also some titmouse, red house finch, red wing blackbirds, Carolina chickadee, a bluejay, a couple of doves,  house wren, and others .................. including squirrels feeding below the feeder.

I have had as many as 9 male red cardinals on my feeders at a time in the last few weeks.

Sure is fun watching them!

Hope you all are staying warm and have elecjuice-ity!

Best regards,  Jeff

Nice to see winter has made it your way!  I have blue jays that chase off cats to get at their food!

I'm out here at the power plant (Person County).  The the snow is coming down hard, and we have been told to stay off the boilers.  Of course, if something goes down, then it's perfectly safe.  Strong wind, down here on the lake level (Hyco).  Just threw a bunch of old loaf bread out the back of our shop, and the birds flew down, in squadons.

Roads are still passable, but it's starting to sleet.  Freezing rain for tonight and tomorrow, ending sometime after midnight on Saturday.  Sunday, in the 40's (DegF).

I took some vids this morning here in western NC

We have about 10 inches so far and it's still coming down
It could be worse, it could be freezing rain

This is a youtube play list of the 4 vids I took this morning

First big snow of 2016

Difficult to see, but there are 11 male cardinals (circled in red)  and 6 female cardinals (circled in orange) in this photo.  And there are two redwinged blackbirds.

Thing of it is there were a bunch more on and under the birdfeeders!

This video was from this morning after the snow finally stopped.

Around 12 to 14 inches of snow fell here and everything came to a screeching halt

Took these a while ago, Christmas and thought about posting some at the time but didn't. Seems like an good time now. We're in S. Oregon and at the moment it's all gone due to the rain. Fun while it lasted though.
