PR #0004
« on: February 01, 2016, 08:14:43 am »
So I let a dear friend talk me out of my PR #0001 so I am building another duplicate of the others.  Every time I build one of these I do something a little different searching for the cleanest most efficient way to build these.
This time I drilled holes for the wires in the board.  Yes it was a LITTLE extra work but the payoff was nice.  I always wire the board before I start adding components, just my way.  I know you guys will hate the under board
wiring but the way I did it really isn't bad if you have to replace a wire.  I already did one as I didn't like the way it looked and it was a breeze.

So here are a few pics from yesterday.  Soon as a few more things show up I'll finish this one out...

Just when I think your workmanship couldn't get any better,

You come up with a subtle but definite improvement.   :worthy1:

You inspire me to always strive to improve the quality of my builds!

I hope those Nashville guitar pickers are seeing your work and sending you their amps for repair/restoration.   :icon_biggrin:

I like that, tying down the board fly leads going through those holes.

Sluckey does that.  :icon_biggrin:

Thanks guys.  The part I like the best about drilling the holes for the teflon wire is it allows the wire to lay down nicely in the chassis for a very clean look not to mention troubleshooting later down the road.  I know it's been done before by others so they must have seen an advantage as well.

Completely off subject:  Lost 16 pounds since Jan10th...  I used to be a pretty serious cyclist a few years back then I got sick with cancer.  Survived but gained a bunch of weight.  Now I'm headed down again and riding my bike again.  I know it has nothing to do with amps and such but it still makes me happy :)

I am riding in my trainer for now and also climbing 24 flights of stairs a day at work, 12 in the morning and 12 in the afternoon.

So what does this have to do with a Princeton Reverb LMAO

Turret vs eyelet? Which is your preference, your earlier ones were eyelet, which I would kind of lean for. Is that like a boxers or briefs" question?

Well it all depends I think.  All the Princetons I have builds are Doug's Turret boards.  I am happy with the Layout and the end products as are the buyers.  For most other Fender Clones I have been building I am using the G10 eyelets.  All the AB763 I have done are on traditional layouts.  I used to use the fiber board eyelet boards for a lot of Bassman frame off restos but am leaning towards the G10 boards for those now.  I have a done a few and the customer loved it.  I say whatever works for you is the right way.

:)

I rode road bikes since mid 1970's

Moved here in Pisgah with 500 miles of trails and after several years, could not exited about being on a paved roads anymore
Even though we have some of the most awesome road biking here

So much more enjoyable for me to be in the forest on a trail
I sold my last road bike last year
No plans to buy another one

I am down to just two carbon bikes at the top of this page

I honestly thought about getting a Ti lynskey 29er but held off.  My wife is a rider too and we did a lot of centuries on our road bikes.  So with her riding when even I buy one I buy two!  Once I get my legs back this spring I might consider a mountain bike if I can find some good places to go around my town.

Sounds like a good road trip for sure...  Right now I'm doing 24 flights of stairs every day at work getting my legs somewhat ready for the trail.

Hi mscaggs,

Stay well. Been there and done that one a few years ago. Every day above ground is a great day.
I'm curious on how you joined your turrets together. It looks so perfect and flat at the turrets.

Thanks

Hey Rob, Yeah that cancer stuff is a tough road but we did it woot woot!!!!

Ok, on the turrets I use some 20 AWG Gauge Tinned Copper Wire Buss Wire.  I start with a half circle and wrap around the first turret.  Then I weave it around and start soldering.  Once the wire is soldered and clipped clean I use some pliers to pull it together between the turrets.  I then solder it all up tight.  Not sure if my method is right but so far I like the looks of it and it is solid.

In the Library, Doug has a second video showing how to solder the lacing and also a pic of lacing squeezed together to get that super neat look:

Try it.   :icon_biggrin:

Should be a little less B+dcv, maybe a little less clean head room and a little browner sound? Maybe a little more power supply compression?

Fantastic work my friend, I wish mine looked like that, however it's just not in me.  It's inspiring to hear of your recovery and journey back to the bike.  I'm a semi-serious recreational road rider as well, just recovering from hip replacement surgery in October.  My geographical location rules out cycling from October to April but I am doing spin classes and getting in some stationary saddle time on my own.  After riding with 1 1/2 legs for the last dozen years or so I'm hoping to up the ante, so-to-speak, come spring.  Italy calls once again.  Keep up the good work on all fronts.

If you're talking dyna you should check out Triode Electronics. They have all the stock parts including trannies and chassis and they also sell a few different flavors of upgraded preamp board. I bought but have not yet built two of their bare boards (that fit into the square hole in an ST-70 Dyna) which I want to build and graft onto yer basic dual 6V6 or 6BQ5 as-found tube amp.

I would bet, by the way, that with your execution level you could find some local Dyna owners who would want the same sort of treatment you do to Fenders.

11T, check this guy out too (http://www.tubes4hifi.com/bob.htm#ST120)

His kits and parts lists look okay too although TRIODE is nice as well.
