Thing reportedly was eating a rancher's cattle.  Never seen one that long before?

13ft 1025 lbs  from Santee Cooper, SC

Look at how enormous the head is on this gator!  Wouldn't you love to be surprised by that rushing out of a stock pond at you when you were frog gigging.

 :help:

5'5" gal got it.

He's a big 'en.  Took my wife canoeing on the orange river in FL looking for manatee, had a 14' canoe, took a fork off the river, Pam said, "I think I see one" we paddled over to the *shadow*, was a gator as long as the canoe, he popped his head up, looked at us, as we paddled the hell outta there!

That thing is Huge! Never seen one that large before.

Can I tell my Gator story???? Well I will anyway:>)

Back in the 70's, went fishing at a pond one Saturday afternoon by myself with my spinning rod with a tiny torpedo. The pond had a concrete duck blind next to the bank. I had been wading in the edge of the pond in order to make more effective cast. I took  little break and wondered over to the duck blind which once I looked down in it noticed it filled with water. I could see something down in the water that looked like a big snake or something. The water was kind of murky and couldn't see clear. So I decided to stick the end of my fishing rod down close to what it was to see if it would move so I could get a better look of what it was. When I did, the water splashed everywhere and it startled me so bad I fell on my back on the ground.

It turned out what appeared to be a big snake was the nose of an alligator. I was thankful that the concrete barrier of the the duck blind was between me and the gator. Somehow after that I had no more desire to wade in the water or fish no more that day, and went home. Platefire

What's next a F@#$ING Sharknado?! I'm glad I live in the NW so I don't have to worry about these things. Plenty enough to worry about out of the water without worrying about what happens when you step into the river. Never visiting the south.

Playing golf down at Disney's old Osprey Ridge.  Had an afternoon (read cheap and blazing hot) tee time and my "partner" did not show up.  So I went out solo and just hit a couple of balls on every hole.  One landed by a fairly large pond that may have been part of the canal system.  Went to take my next shot with my back to the water.  Big splash and about a 5 footer came out hissing at me.  Thought about taking a wack at it with my 9 iron and thought better of it.  The small ones can move!  Scared the bejesus out of me.  Told the pro shop when I got back.  They said it would be removed by the next day and gave me a pass for a free round.  They said most are not aggressive and just keep to themselves.  I guess I got too close.  Don't like decedents of dinos or snakes.  I'm getting too old for that kind of excitement....

It's valuable....

One of the D-world snack bars sells gator nuggets. "Tasty" must be in the cooking. I thought it was over-cooked bicycle tires. But I guess if they can harvest gators on the golf course there's no need to pay for tires.

tastes like chikkin!!! ha!  :icon_biggrin:

calamari can have a rubbery texture, but it still tastes good. but then again, we don't go fishing for calamari to make tyers.

fried gator is OK and nothing i seek out, but if it's served at a family re-union, i won't turn it down.

I got to spend time in Naples in my Navy days, I would always have the taxi driver take me to places he would take his family to eat.  The food was ALWAYS great, un-identifiable but great
