Plexi 6V6 and Supro cabs
« on: August 14, 2016, 07:50:15 pm »
As stated in my other thread, I spent good deal of weekend on these, mostly rounding off, cutting cleats and all over initial sanding.
One head is to house the Plexi 6V6 and the other is for a Supro 6420.
Made some progress on the 15" speaker cab.  Got an Eminence Legend.  Thought I could try it with both.
All Pine on heads and speaker cab is Pine and Baltic Birch ply for baffles.  Not sure if I want to make the speaker back closed or the option to have it open.  I don't think I will ever use tolex on speaker cabs.
Down the road I think I am going to visit the lumber mill.  Went to Lowes and all too easy, but slowly learning warped boards aren't cool.  Will use 10-32 allen heads on the t-nuts for the speaker from now on.  Last project had real potential for danger when I was using screwdriver, lost control and almost gauged speaker cone.
Thankfully, the sander helped correct some of my routing rounding off goofs.  Not so much on my jigsaw work.  There's still some funky spots but I can accept and happy overall with what l have. Used some Liquid Nails Wood caulk on the interior of the speaker cab to help with any open cracks/pockets, dunno if it will make a difference but that stuff was not real fun to use.

These go with my SluckeyHuss Plexi 6V6 build

Just put three grits to these cabs today, just love how smooth they feel afterwards.  Drilled for handles and feet and completed baffle--I didn't use the allenhead screws in the end because they protruded too much into grill cloth.  But no big deal.
Head with Bolts is one I want for a Supro--haven't built it but when I get out the saw, router and tools etc, out for woodwork, might as well do 2nd while at it.

Nice looking cabinets.

For the allen-head screws... assuming you are screwing them in from the rear, you could just use a dremel tool or even a hacksaw to shorten the screws so they are flush with the baffle on the front-end.

Nice looking cabinets.

Thank you. They have their little quirks (boogery) but you can't see them in the pic :undecided:
The screws were no big deal--I was able to get 100 box of screws, finishing washers, keps for good price.  I kept the allen heads and will use them next time--just need wood around baffle that grill cloth lays on to be alittle thicker.
I just put a first coat of tung oil on--I used Formby's before but forgot it behind in my move.
Im using Hope's brand and I like how it's working out.
I would really like to get a wood brander but never really developed a "logo"--got a name, though.
They don't seem that pricey.  I wonder if you could use them after finishing.
I usually look around and copy stuff I like.  The TRM cab guy wrote a bit on his process (and looks like he does excellent work) so I tried it and really liked the result---minimal effort but simplistic result that suits me.
Verellen amps brand their amps and I love how that looks.  Cosmetically, they look awesome and Emperor cabs, as well.

Finished it up.
Here's the 15 in speaker.
Lots of screws in this.  Killed my hand because most spots make it nearly impossible with a drill unless you want to strip the heads of the screws.  Went with 7 coats of tung oil again.  The first few coats are enjoyable but after 3 or 4 it starts to become less enjoyable and tedious Ha!  But it pays off.
The finished amp is here:
