Photo of the Deluxe Reverb
« on: December 19, 2016, 08:44:32 am »
Hi Guys,

This was my first attempt at  trying to make a case and covering it. I made a few mistakes and learned a good bit about the process. I think I learned enough to do a good job on the next one. Education is never cheep...lol

The amp is basically a Hoffman AB763 with a few mods. The current speakers are  two Celestion vintage G12M  from the 1980s. I ordered Weber D12 and also Weber NeoMag to experiment with. The NeoMag is Weber's take on a JBL D120F. They should be here is a week or two.

The reverb is still producing more noise when it is turned up than I am happy with. Other than that the amp only starts to produce a very small amount of hum/hiss when the volume is turned up past 90%. I am not sure just how to reduce the reverb noise.

Cheers,

Billy

EDIT: The plate is actually not black but a darker brown. I want to get set up to do engraving for face plates but I need a new computer and a high speed 12000 RPM motor for my CNC mill. Most likely around $1500 worth of stuff. May be a while before I can afford it. Never enough money...lol

Looks great, what glue did you use for the tolex?

You won't be disappointed with this amp.  My single channel build sounds amazing.  I'm positive yours does too.

I like how stuff from the 80's is now seen as "vintage".

Thanks guys

I used 3m spray glue. I would use a stronger glue on the next build.

Cheers,

Billy

Hey Billy, Yeah, used that spray stuff and...............
I use gel bond as it is less stringy than normal contact, less messy.
The trick I find is to apply the contact and leave it for at least 5 minutes before putting the tolex on.
I paint only to start of the radii on the edges.
Once I have wrapped the tolex around the four sides I do all the edges.
By doing this the contact softens the tolex enough to make it pliable and a little stretchy, makes the tolex stick to those square corners.

Hi Timbo,

Nice looking cabinet.

Covering cabinets is like anything else....it takes a certain amount of skill that takes time to develop. I learned enough on this first attempt to know how to prevent most of the issues I encountered on the next one.

Cheers,

Billy
