I love Russel Smiths writing!  :happy1:

Amazing Rhythm Aces, I got a real George Jones.

Me too.  Course you know I know a lot of the previous Aces members.  Love the tune.

O yes, I will be playing Memorial Day with Mike Brooks.  Mike was the original geetar player and his family are very well known in Christian Music.  He left the Aces to play with his family, but has always been in-touch with the rest.  Russel is from Knoxville, but lives in Fletcher North Carolina.  Sort of near Asheville.

Mike actually still gets royalty checks and laughs about them. They are not much, but hey, more than mine.

If you ever get a chance to see them I am sure you will.  Ask them if you can sit it, they love it when other sit in.  Seriously.  this is how these hillbillies have gotten all those influences you hear.  Their stuff is not really commercial enough for top 40 radio, but I have always liked what they do.  Sort of like Little Feat.

I've been distracted a lot lately... Just seeing this now.

I'm a sucker for pedal steel.  When one of the greats plays the right 6th chord or drops in a tangy 7th, they can get me sobbing.

I'm just starting to discover the Amazing Rhythm Aces.  I remember hearing Sammy Kershaw's cover of Third Rate Romance back in the late 90's and thinking how smooth the guitar solo sounded, and how I'd never be able to play that.  A couple months ago I stumbled across the Aces' original, and sat down & learned it in a half hour.  Great fun to play.

But they put so many great nuances in other songs like Who Will the Next Fool Be (like the beat turning around at ~0:51 at the end of the first verse).  I really need to dig into listen to those guys (and I need time to get some lessons!  :icon_biggrin:).

They can play a lot of different things very well, IMO.

I've always loved the double stops on 'Third Rate Romance.'

I listen to their albums/songs on youtube.

Just type in their name and on the right side comes up a song list button and just to the right of that button is a full album button. The song list if you click on the 1st song the whole list will play back to back, nice!

The song link you just posted, 'Who Will the Next Fool be', is another great example of how good/great of a band they were.
