anyone built a 6G6-B

Looking at schematics thought this was a different tone stack arrangement. wondered if there was if there was any sonic bliss to be had.

You cant say 6G6B without waking him up. Give him some time, things are a little slower down south.

There's two channels and two tonestacks. Both are based on the classic Fender BMT. Bass channel has a way-small fixed Mid resistor, oversize caps, and fixed treble resistors, then a separate Treb knob at a later point. Norm is routine except the Treb pot is extended to severe top-cut.

I take it back...
I forgot about the cathode follower on the bass channel that would put the 2 signals out of phase if jumpered, so no jumpering for me.

This is also Harrison's main amp from about 65 on and a favorite of Tom Petty.  I'm lucky to have an original as well as a 6G6 - I plan on making a couple clones - great amps.  The 6G6-A is the one I'm interested in now - the plate voltage runs significantly higher than the other 2.

You need to change one tube to  jumper. A pentode is nice and keeps the phase correct. Then channel 1 is you drive.

The second channel has the 350k taped pot. It works from top center. Right adds and left reduced. It is plate driven and does not steal a lot of gain. Channel 1 has a different setup and is not as responsive, but does have a tube tone. Needs a couple of tweaks.


Great amp. Been my go to for a long time now. What is cool is it always has some bite ready when you dig hard, but lighten the touch and clean. I call them full bodied. Tone and not weak anywhere.
