ESR Meter - Someone has experience with cheap ones ?
« on: January 03, 2018, 05:11:02 am »
Is a lot of time I would like to buy an ESR meter but a good one will cost something like 115 € + VAT ........

https://it.rs-online.com/web/p/tester-lcr/6858791/

on e-bay is possible to find some units (that are declared as able to measure also ESS) that are really cheap (start from ~20-25€ and less in KIT)

https://www.ebay.it/itm/B1-Color-1-8-TFT-ESR-Meter-Transistor-Resistor-Diode-Triode-Capacitor-Tester-ZD/302509369288?hash=item466ef6a7c8:g:2KYAAOSw9gRZ-Upb

Someone has experience with low cost ESR meters ?

Thanks

Franco

Franco,
I purchased the fully assembled Anatek Instruments Blue ESR meter for under $100 and it works great.

Many thanks Friends

the ESR meter is not very diffused as DIY laboratory equipment, but sometime friends give me old apparatus to dismant and to put on the garbage some very nice e-cap that at the capacitor meter seems in good shape, only because you aren't sure 100% about it is a pain

I really think I'll get one soon

Those testers are good and cheap too.
I bought mine from banggood on the web.
It can even test IR remote controls displaying the ID code and the key code as two pulse trains.

Can you test "in circuit"?  (powered off)
Went Class C for efficiency

You would need to look at the circuit diagram to see what is connected to the part you are measuring and make adjustments to the readings you get.
In some circuits it will not work at all.

I use the DER-5000 LCR meter for sorting resistors, checking out caps, and identifying unknown inductors. I paid about $90 off of eBay from a Japanese seller, so just be patient when it comes to shipping. Because of its intended use, it has no input protection, so it is best to avoid in circuit testing or be doubly sure that all caps in the equipment are discharged.

The one in the video is like mine but without the sensor for testing remote controls.
I just plug it into a USB port for a couple of hours every couple of months to charge the internal up again.
