A Neat Little Tester
« on: April 08, 2018, 06:51:29 pm »
Saw Brad The Guitologist on YouTube using the Geekcreit LCR-T4 Mega328
to test capacitors, diodes and transistors so I checked his link to BangGood
but they were out of stock. But I found in on NewEgg! This little bugger seems like
a lot of "bang" for only a few "duckets"

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6RP6KB5555&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

Seems like it's gonna be a handy tool.
Mine works fine.
Solid state has no soul........

Take a look at this. He seems to like it.

I bought one off ebay. Seems to be a pretty good quick and dirty tester for most (but not all) components.

Who is John Galt?

It's up & running.  Didn't realize the board came fully assembled.  Just had to build the clear acrylic box housing.

Seems to work as advertised.  It's ID'd the voltage of some LED's I pulled from old equipment.  It's not a model of accuracy but works to identify components and give ball park values.

Has anyone used it to measure the value of a choke? And?
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

yes. works - measures high though: i was expecting that since the excitation current is nowhere near the rating of the choke i measured. DCR is damn close. choke in  pic is a vintage fender 90mA 4H 90DCR. p/n 022699

5H-6H is about as expectable for a "4H" choke measured far below rated current.

I'm a little surprised it does so well.

We should never care a lot about 'exact' values of iron-core coils; as you say, they vary a lot with voltage,  current, and frequency. We mainly care if a '4H' shows <1H (possibly shorted turn) or 100H (you grabbed the wrong part).

The KOOKYE in post #2 seems to have moved to this page:
https://www.amazon.com/KOOKYE-Mega328-Transistor-Tester-Capacitance/dp/B019SXN2M2

Rated inductance range claims 20H. A few OTs, particularly hi-fi, will be higher than this.

you should give one a spin. handy little device when you want to confirm the pinning and polarity of a transistor. capacitance measurement accuracy is decent and as as you stated already - it'll help you select the right part.

I use this unit MK-328, that comes already boxed.
Same circuit as the one shown here

I love it, one of the best additions to the workshop
