6n2p tubes
« on: November 24, 2018, 03:49:48 am »
Hi there, I have a lot of these and was wondering how they work in place of 12ax7.
Bought them long time ago dirt cheap. Most of them are EV, but also I have ER which should be even better than EV.
I know that heater wiring is different.
Have not heard how these sound, everything on the net is just bad quality sound or poorly explained about them.
If anyone has experience with 6n2p tubes please share.

Yes, I have 6n2p-V that were made in 1966.and 6n2p-EV those are the same as Vs except EVs are made in the 80s.
V stands for Vojna which means military and EV means Export Vojna.
These are ruggedized tubes with triple mica and also silver or nickel plates.
I dont have a clue what ER means but I know that those are even better than EV.
ER should last >10000h and EV >5000h

Basically it's just a ruggedized version of the 12AX7, with the only option of parallel filaments.

I know they are basicaly the same as 12ax7 with some minor diferences. I was just wondering has anyone tried them and how they compare soundwise. Is it worth rewiring sockets?

I'm kind of new at all this, and my Russian is rusty (haven't been there since 1987 and haven't spoken Russian regularly since 1992), so please verify everything that follows.

I was not previously aware of any socket wiring difference between 6n2p and 12AX(whatever) and a cursory search seemed to confirm the same pin layout.

https://tdsl.duncanamps.com/show.php?des=12ax7

The only difference I find is some data sheets list 300v B+ for the 12AX and 250v for the 6n2p

Personally I don't think any tube change for tonal experimentation would be worth re-wiring tube sockets.
But I'm not sure you actually would have to.
