Plexi 6V6 build
« on: April 30, 2019, 12:37:18 pm »
Hi all - question...
I'm building a Plexi 6v6 (schematic on the build pages) - and wanted to use the neon light. Here's what Doug says about it in the store..
"120 vac neon lamp assembly

Mounts into a 10mm hole. Square front bezel shape.
Just solder two wires to this lamp.
One wire goes to the neutral/white power cord wire.
The other wire goes to the hot/black power cord wire after it comes out of your main power switch."

The directions included with the kit have it wired between the two heater wires...
Which is it?

Thats the pic/schematic.

this one
EDIT bad link  :dontknow:
the store, red neon;
installs just like it says, across the hot neutral.

the one in the schematic is an LED, IT goes across the 6.3vac, resistor required, like schematic
Went Class C for efficiency

The neon light in Doug's store is NOT the light used in Doug's Plexi6V6. But if you rather use the neon just follow the instructions in the store.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Looks like Doug did not update the schematic and layout. He does have the neon lamp listed in the parts list. The neon is much easier to install. If you really want to use a LED as shown on the schematic, you will also need a resistor and a bezel to mount the LED in. I would rather have the neon. If you're not satisfied, take it up with Doug. I'm sure he'll do whatever you want.

At a cheapo china electronic store ( i miss very much the era of only usa made parts) near my place they sell lighted 120v switches ala marshall.. All in one. Easy n fast. Good quality ? Hmmmmmm good question. Shop USA if you can. In my area even car parts come from china. I keep my Harley all Harley. All Harley Davidson dealers carry HD parts. But if I go to an aftermarket parts dealer, I must be ready to deal with crap quality.

No, but they did want to buy Harley.  Wonder what kind of sound a Chinese Harley would make? One I wouldn't want to hear, that's for sure.  :icon_biggrin:

No they didn t move to china but under the threats of Trump they were thinking  building a production line for their french market, in France.
Don t know if they are on the process of doing it

All I know is that there are very, very few Harley riders in USA that would buy one that wasn't Made In Merica.  :l2:

I d rather ride a GB made Triumph than a China made Harley  that s for sure !
My Fender guitar is a pure pre CBS made in USA product. I d rather play an all merican hand made unknown brand guitar than a Jap fender.
