Cut & Paste in ExpressSCH Schematic
« on: May 08, 2019, 04:21:59 am »
Is there a way to cut a section of schematic from one file and paste it into another?

yup
use the select arrow, top left icon, select the section to be copied, select EDIT, COPY.
here's the wonky part. CLOSE your current file, open the file you want to paste to, can be new file.  Then PASTE.
you have to close the "pasted" file, open whatever file has the next "thing" you want to copy, select/copy/close/open destination/paste.

it make things easier once you select your "thing" to copy to "group" it 1st.  makes moving around big chunks easier.  you can ""ungroup" once it's "in place"

Hi Shooter.

Thanks for the response.  But it doesn't work.  Grouped or ungrouped, copied or cut.

Doesn't work for me. However you can make a new sheet in the same file. And you can copy/cut/paste between the two sheets. Maybe this can be useful to you.

I played around some more after finding this thread; https://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=10045.0

For the copy and paste trick to work, you can't close the program.  You have to switch between the different files via the open file icon on the top left.

Very clutzy! It would be nice to have BOTH files open (maybe tiled side by side) and copy/cut/paste between the two files like most windows programs.

ya, but it's free and I've been using it since beta test days  :think1:
you're correct, the origin program automatically closes when you open the new to paste in.

I know the program has a lot of good features. I don't understand why it doesn't have good copy/paste functionality though. That's such a basic Windows operation. This program doesn't seem to use Windows clipboard!

IIRC the original beta (3.5" floppy) was multi-platform  standalone (?)
I'm actually surprised it's lasted this long, I always thought of it as a "garage" company in the early days, but I could whip up a 2 layer 2"X3" digital board for some "work-a-round" circuit faster than I could boot up a old school cad and have them made for ~ 3 for $30
Hell, I didn't even use 1/2 the features I do know, AND Doug can make the boards for about 80% less than they will now!

Yeah for the price of the program I can deal with the clutziness...  now that I know how to copy and paste between files.  Thanks to Shooter and Geezer for the help.
