CHOKE Question for Blues Junior, Hoffman conversion
« on: November 24, 2019, 01:48:45 pm »
I am in the process of making the Hoffman conversion on one of my blues juniors. Since gathering the parts, I’ve started looking into adding a choke to the design, much like the prototype that Hoffman built.  (A mercury magnetics choke is now on its way to me!)

I’m wondering, especially for those of you who have done this on your blues Junior, is simply a matter of replacing the first input resistor with the choke all you need to do? I think there are some additional modifications that need to be done to account for the lower DC resistance of the choke versus the actual resistor it is replacing.

Is it possible that I am likely to get some tonal change from this change in resistance versus the effect of the filter itself? Any ideas on other things I would need to add to compensate for this design change?
Thank you so much for your input!

That's all Hoffman did...

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
