Pedal Power Supply DIY?

Hi - This is a project I have wanted to do for awhile - make a simple-ish 9V string with maybe 6 outputs, using a printer power supply? 
   I am sort-of adept at figuring this stuff out, but still a learning amateur for sure.
   I did see something on one of the DIY blog sites, but in was a 120vac line unit as I recall.
   What I'd like to do is use as-new 18vac 6A (I think it is vac, not vdc, need to dig it out) HP printer supply pack  and I assume a string of Voltage regulars with r/c filters - ? I believe AES has VR's for sale.
   Anyone have ideas and suggestions?  I think this could be a common use for ps's sitting as printers are seeing less use.  I don't have or know how to use schematic programs but can draw and photo/upload schematic/layout ideas.  Maybe this has been done here already?

Thank you both , I'll check out the link, and copy your schematic SLuckey. I have only a couple pedals now and don't chain anything but would like a univibe/phase 100 or such and maybe others at used prices, so thus a need for ps.

OK Had a look and Joel's spider looks like something I heard about and a pedal parts supplier was selling tiny tx's for something like this I assume.
Thanks Steve for this design it looks really cool/elegant.  I do like this as it looks like less parts. I'll look to mouser etc and see if I can figure a layout and the correct parts and post a list and drawing and maybe you can confirm I'm on the right track.
Never done a red led(I assume the arrow symbols are light wave emission for red indicator -still learning the basics...The adjustability per 500R is cool for adding/subtracting loads using single source power point.
I'd make this on a alum sheet deck with wood frame surround and bottom and shielded interior.  Thanks again.

Just to follow up and not leave this hanging - I have looked for V-Regs and studied again the blog at 'Instructables' ; have a good idea how to do this, but prefer to batch parts together in one order and shipping, and I get by with wall warts ok. I tried finding the VR and 500R trimmer etc per mouser, on SLuckeys schematic, and NLA but others are similar, so I assume it is generic to some degree.
Thank you all for the suggestions and if/when I do this project I'll add to this some pictures.  I am working first on tube amp projects, and this may be more hassle than it is worth.

The LM123 is probably obsolete but it was very popular in '70s era TTL radar systems. I chose that because I had access to plenty of them. It's a nice heavy duty TO-3 case three terminal 5V @ 3A VR. I'm sure there are plenty of modern 3A VRs available. 3 amps will power a lot of 9V pedals! I use a 12VAC wall wart to supply my 8 pedals plus a cry baby. The LM123 doesn't even get warm. You can see it mounted on the back of my pedal board. I never saw a failed LM123.

 Thanks Steve.  The sites I looked at gave sub's similar in the metal case, def heavy duty looking and price was somewhere at $80 I think. The smaller type are $3 which are fine inside a casework. 

I just like the idea of using up stuff that is good and sitting around.  The v-r's aren't easy to get around here as radio shack is gone now...used to be 2 stores here.

You need to shop on eBay for LM123 or LM323. Plenty available in the US for $5 to $10. And you can get them for $2 if you want to buy from China.
