I've been googling this issue the last two hours, a 6v6 Plexi l just changed the OT how the PT has a low pitched hum. I thought at first it might be due to the OT change, l didn't notice it with the original AO-43 OT but was probably there..? The new PT is an 18 watt, 8k. I have three 6V6s built all exactly the same and this latest one is the only one that has a humming PT, all are the original AO-43 PTs. The hum comes as soon as I turn on the power with amp in standby mode (no signal to OT), just a/c and filaments. So, l can't see the OT I replaced having any effect? I pulled each tube, hum doesn't leave. It's not real loud, not 60 cycle hum, more like a power transformer on a telephone pole that's humming, like buzz. At first l thought it had something to do with the new OT but hum with no DC signal or current to amp. Comes with power on immediately, l pulled speaker cab for the heck of it, still there. I don't think it was there before the OT change but it might have been and l didn't notice it. I noticed it when l turned on the standby changing guitars and the room was quite. This is driving me crazy, all voltages are correct, amp sounds great, PT doesn't get hot or even warm, even when playing it hard. Please don't suggest l just forget it, none of the other AO-43 conversions do this and all transformers are located in same place, all exact copies. One thing l'm thinking, since l didn't notice it before OT change maybe something to do with the new OT not properly grounded? Ground is threw the spk jack only, maybe l should run a wire to the star ground but again buzzes in standby mode, no current to OT... ?
