Where to get custom faceplates?
« on: April 20, 2021, 11:24:31 am »
In the past I used BNP Lasers for custom faceplates but they have closed. Mojo is no longer offering faceplate services. I have done a google search and found a few but its hard to know who does a good job.

Does anyone have recommendations?

If you found a few in your search you may have to just try one. I was planning on MOJO for a one off I needed but they shut down custom faceplates. Thinking it may have been Covid related but can't remember the timing. What do you need to make them BTW? A laser engraver or some sort of ~30x30 CNC machine? I'd start doing them myself if it's around $2000 to get started. Anyway good luck finding someone, maybe you could post an update if you made some progress.

I have thought about engraved faceplates from a trophy store.

I should have followed up... I used JT Productions.

In the past, the engraver I used required very specific layout types, units, layers, fonts, etc. Jeff said, "send me the PDF." It was as easy as that. I was making things hard trying to convert fonts to strokes, etc. The last file I sent was just a PDF. It includes the font characters needed and I guess his engraver knows how to interpret the files.

Looks great!

So your face plate is engraved metal with black paint filling the voids from engraving?

Or is it silk screened?

It's some sort of plastic with a brushed aluminum finish. I think the laser cuts through the top-layer to engrave it revealing the black material underneath.

I have thought about engraved faceplates from a trophy store.

my local trophy shop does dye sublimation on white or silver aluminum, which means can be full color graphics. i just send a pdf with fonts converted to paths (an option when saving in inkscape) and he can print em and cut em for me

I tried to use JTPro over the past ten days.   Never was able to get a quote from them despite both phone and email contacts.

I will try local trophy shop -- seems like a good idea.

I have thought about engraved faceplates from a trophy store.

I did go to a local trophy shop.  I gave them a drawing with dimensions and they whipped it up out of gold anodized aluminum for $20, holes included but lettering/engraving extra. They can do any kind of metal and finish almost but the aluminum was cheap for a first time try.  I will definitely use them again.  :icon_biggrin:
