Power Supply For Tube Circuit Development
« on: August 03, 2021, 03:28:58 am »
Are there any alternatives to the Heathkit Ip-17 regulated high voltage dc power supply?
Thanks.

What do you want the power supply to do? What build is it for?

There are plenty of alternatives. But if your main interest is guitar amps, very few use regulated power supplies. And the ones that do are only regulating screens or other low current circuits.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I'm pretty much..... very much  a newbie, been doing a little reading up, have Merlin Blencowes books, Radiotron Designers Handbook, several by Richard Kuehnel, couple by Popovich. I'm waiting for my Kevin O'Connor TUT books to arrive. Have a Hamtek scope, signal generator, Bought some nos 12AX7 from Ukraine and some Pentodes. Regards the Heathkit it can supply B+ for the plates and filiment voltages. It only goes to B+ of 350V. Some tubes might require a higher voltage.

Trenton Blizzard. How To Design A 12AX7 Gain Stage - Part 4 (Measurements)

He uses an Elco 1030 regulated DC power supply that goes to 400V B+ he uses a separate DC supply for the heaters, his is like my one.  Not thinking of any design at moment, more learning and some forward planning.

You can learn a lot with a 250V unregulated supply. 400V supplies are for stage-fighting, not learning.
