So I get home from work today and my sister is there with 2 boxes and a cheshire cat grin. She tells me that she saw a local posting on Facebook Marketplace for "some electronics and stuff" and she messaged the guy about a box on top of the stack with glass in it. He replied that he didn't know what they were. Someone else chimed in, stating that those shiny things were tubes.
(Did I ever mention how freaking awesomely cool my sister is? Well, she really is!)
So she told the fella that her brother tinkers with stuff like that and asked him how much he wanted.
This is the part that NEVER happens to me...
He said, "He can have them for free. I hope he enjoys them." She tried to offer him something but he refused.
I got partway through the 8 pin box and came up with 5U4, 5Y3, 6AX4, 6W4, 6AC7, 6SN7, 6K6, 6V6 and a few others that I know nothing about (yet!)
The smaller box looks like about half 7 pin and half 9 pin tubes. Definitely saw a 12AY7 in there tho. It's late so that will have to wait for another day.
There was also a few small, folded pieces of paper with notes, schematics and transformer info neatly written on them. I thought that was as cool as the tubes themselves. I think this stuff belonged to the fella's grandfather and I bet he would be tickled pink to know they didn't wind up in the dump. Yeah, they're all used and, yeah, some of them were hard to read from not being stored in boxes, but I tested all the output tubes and every single one works. (I kinda dig the 6K6 in my S.E. amp. It sounds like a totally different animal. Some experimenting is definitely on the agenda for tomorrow!)
I was just so danged happy, I had to share. I love my sister! She is the BEST!
