Self-adhesive tie mounts for wire routing
« on: January 04, 2022, 07:14:09 pm »
A while back I started a thread about the Dr. Z "EMS" amp and I noticed in the gut shots he used these little adhesive tie mounts for wire routing.  I figured if he's doing it, why not give it a shot myself?
I ordered a bag of 200 off Amazon for about $10, the 1/2" x 1/2" size.
these are perfect for the little 4" wire ties.
was wondering if any of experienced builders have used them in your builds and how the adhesive held over time.  A little worried about the heat un-stickyfying the little pads.

They usually do well in a temperature/humidity controlled environment. Not so good in a power panel outside your house.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I have used those and the next size up in quite a few amps - especially when drilling holes is just not a good idea. I like them for securing axial filter caps. I clean the chassis area first with alcohol - Isopropyl, not Lagavulin. They hold well, but where I can, I prefer to drill a hole and secure the pad or use another type of mount - lots of options here https://www.cabletiesandmore.com/cable-supports. What I have never liked is using a glob of RTV to secure things and these pads help avoid that.

I can see where using the ones with mounting holes would come in really handy.  decent price too.
