Two 4 ohm speakers in series or parallel read 2 ohm on multimeter

I have two 4 ohm speakers that I want to wire in series for 8 ohms.
I have tried both series and parallel wiring and it always reads 2 ohms on the multimeter.
I understand that the multimeter will not be exact and there is a general formula where the reading will be below the speaker ohm rating.
I have wired some 8 ohm speakers together and got readings that made sense 13 ohms in series and 4 ohms in parallel. However the two 4 ohm speakers together always read 2 ohms whether they are wired in series or parallel.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'd say operator error or faulty meter. Maybe replace meter battery.
