Stancor line adjuster ??
« on: September 08, 2022, 04:58:44 pm »
This is a hefty transformer with a 2 prong plug on one side and a two prong outlet on the top. It has an 8 position switch on top 45 v to 150 v It has a voltmeter built into the front 0-150 v 10 v increments with the 120 being red. What is its purpose? Isolation Transformer??? Quasi variac ??

Pictures, model number?

Sounds like a bench transformer with switched secondary outputs. Use your ohmmeter to see if the output is isolated from input.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

It's on the "Isolation Power" page, so my guess is that it could be used with a 117v source as an isolation trans. ? The output recepticle being  permanently connected to the 115 v tap has me questioning that ?? if there is no continuity when off on all settings it should be alright as an I. T. ?

It's an autotransformer so there will not be any isolation. Read the description just above section B.

Thanks I had read that , it really did not give me much to go on to be honest. It looks great though I picked it and several VTVM's a signal generator, resistors and 1% resistors at the flea market at a low price. I do appreciate your help on this . I'll keep it around in case they cut back our voltage I'd be lost without a tube amp  :icon_biggrin:

It's 6 pounds. As an isolation transformer that's about 40VA at most; but this is 150vA. So it is, as said, an auto-transformer, no isolation.

15V steps are remarkably huge.

65V and 145V inputs are pretty silly. If that 145V was coming out of your walls, 115V incandescent lamps would be BRIGHT and last about 2 days. OTOH, 65V won't toast bread or light an incandescent brighter than a birthday candle.

It is really hard to see what market Stancor had in mind.

If you reverse the genders, it could turn modern 125V down to 70V, brown sound.

If you reverse the genders
maybe "stepped" electric fencing, 65vac on the perimeter, 145 for inside ring
Went Class C for efficiency
