RIP Dickey Betts
« on: April 18, 2024, 02:53:29 pm »
Well, another great gone.

Dickey wrote Jessica for his, at the time, 1st, newly born daughter. He said at that time he was way into Django and got the bouncy rhythm from Django for Jessica.

Dickey had a great ear for melody I always thought. And just beautiful tone. He was a very good slide player too.

I think his solo work on this is as good as or better any of them, Duane, Clapton, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck, etc.

Dickey's slide work at the end is very good.

The harmony guitar lead parts are played by Les Dudek.

My daughter was "supposed" to be named Jenifer, while my wife was flying high on whatever drugs they gave her, I filled out the paperwork, Jessica  :icon_biggrin:
that song got LOTS of loud play Saturdays when me, Jessica, and Banjo the Basset hound, "cleaned" the house.

Still one of my go-to songs on 2-lane backroads.
Went Class C for efficiency
